MY GOAL
My end goal is to help the most confident, powerful, and present version of you show up & show out in your images. Here are some tips that will help the shoot flow.
PRE-SHOOT PREP
- Review Photoshoot Material. Please review guides & information I've sent you. I'll make sure to send them again before the shoot so you don't have to go digging through emails.
- Outfits & Props. Please prepare any outfits & items we've discussed. Items that reflect what you do are perfect. Please iron/steam clothing.
- Just In Case Items. Water & snacks, a brush, makeup, hairspray, bobby pins, tissues, change of clothes, comfy shoes
- Declutter Your Space. If I'm coming to you're location, please remove any mess & distracting items in the spaces we'll be shooting in that aren't important to your brand (like water bottles, trash, etc...)
- Plan Your Drive. Give yourself time to get there, park, and walk to the location.
PREPARING YOURSELF
- Water. Drinking lots of water a week before the shoot will help hydrate and clear your skin.
- Eat healthy. Eating your fruits, veggies, proteins, healthy grains, and fats will help reduce bloating, help clear your mind and skin, and make you feel great!
- Haircuts. If you have a trusted stylist and you want to get your usual, go ahead! I encourage you to use caution if you plan to dramatically change your hair for this shoot, just in case you don’t like the outcome.
- Makeup. I typically advise make-up to be kept natural unless we're planning for something dramatic
- Your Mind. The inside of you is just as important as the outside. Dwell on the ultimate purpose of this session. What do you hope to gain? Why did you start your business or brand? I expand more on this below.
POSING TIPS
So much of being in front of the camera is mental, and it can bring up insecurities & things we all like to avoid. That's why posing & showing up confidence start in the mind & spirit.
- Grander Purpose. If you tend to be shy and feel uncomfortable in front of a camera, dwell on the end goal of these photographs. Why are you doing this shoot? It's most likely because you have something you want to be hired & booked for. You have something you believe will positively impact other people's lives. These images are a tool to help you achieve that. They're not a reflection of your worth. You're already worthy. Believing in yourself & what you have to offer will make your confidence shine. Thinking of the grander purpose and your ultimate mission helps keep things in perspective.
- Standing Tall. Imagine an invisible string from the back of your neck to the top of your head is being pulled up straight.
- Give Your Hands Something to Do. One hand in a pocket, on your hip, or tucking hair behind your ear give your hands natural things to do. Holding props/items from things integral to your work helps tell your story.
- I Keep it Moving. Don't worry, I'm not going to point a camera at you and just say, "pose." I walk through various prompts, emotions, and fluid motions. You'll find that I'll drop my camera a lot to do it with you.
